Town of Port au Port East

Public Meeting #2 - Twilight Club 50+

7:30-8:30pm, Monday, July 19, 2021

The Town of Port au Port East is currently in the process of developing a new Municipal Plan and Development Regulations. The new Plan will be the roadmap for the community over the next 10 years. The Plan will contain policy and proposal statements regarding economic development, protection of the environment, and the future form and development of land uses. The Regulations will contain the detailed provisions to give effect to the Plan (e.g. zoning). The Town has retained SCP consultants to develop the new Plan. Public participation is a central part of this process as the documents must reflect the priorities and values of the community as a whole.

The planning process to date is summarized below (see bolded for current step):
 
-    Research and submission of Background Report to Council – April 2020 to September 2020 [COMPLETE]
-    Phase 1 Public Participation (survey with draw prize, stakeholder group consultations, public notices and public meeting) – October 2020 to November 2020 [COMPLETE]
-    Submission of Public Participation Report to Council – January 2021 [COMPLETE]
-    Submission of Draft Municipal Plan (2021-31) and Development Regulations (2021-31) to Council for internal review – January 2021 [COMPLETE]
-    Phase 2 Public Participation, public input on Draft Municipal Plan (2021-31) and Draft Development Regulations (2021-31) [CURRENT – Open until July 30, 2021]

The Municipal Plan Background Report (2020) and Public Participation Report (2021) can be viewed by clicking here. Provincial interests, laws and policies relevant to the planning process are summarized in Appendices C.3.1, C.3.2, and C.3.3 of the Background Report (2020) (provincial comments and Interdepartmental Land Use Committee Report).

The Draft Municipal Plan (2021-31) and Development Regulations (2021-31) and associated maps (Future Land Use Classes and Land Use Zones maps, respectively) are now available for review and commentary by the public. These documents can be viewed by clicking here.

 

Alternatively, hardcopies of the Background Report (2020), Public Participation Report (2021), and Municipal Plan (2021-31) and Development Regulations (2021-31) may be viewed at the Town Office located on Hynes Road (Route #462), near the intersection of Main Street (Route #460) (if needed, please call the Town Office at (709) 648-2731 for directions).

SCP consultants will also be holding Public Meeting #2, tentatively set for 7:30-8:30pm, Monday, July 19, 2021 at the Twilight 50+ Club to give an overview of the draft Municipal Plan (2021-31) and Development Regulations (2021-31) and planning process to date. There will be a brief presentation at this session with a follow-up informal discussion.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to manage numbers at the public meeting, the Port au Port East Town Council is asking that everyone pre-register by Friday, July 9, 2021 by contacting the Town Office at 648-2731. If numbers do not allow for social distancing, an additional meeting will be arranged. 

​

As per provincial COVID-19 requirements, please wear a mask to the meeting. Hand sanitizer will be provided upon entering the building. Attendees will be required to practice social distancing during the meeting and asked to remain seated throughout the presentation and discussion. 

​

Council intends on holding a second public meeting to further canvass input on the draft Municipal Plan (2020-30) and Development Regulations (2020-30). The details of this meeting are to be determined and another public notice will follow regarding Public Meeting #2.

The Regulations will contain the detailed provisions to give effect to the Plan (e.g. zoning). The current Municipal Plan and Development Regulations can be viewed here.  

 

The Town has retained SCP consultants to develop the new Plan. Public participation is a central part of this process as the document must reflect the priorities and values of the community as a whole. Town Council would greatly appreciate if you took the time to complete the brief (10-minute) “Envision Port au Port East 2031: Municipal Plan Survey” found below.

 

There will be a survey draw on November 20, 2020 for a $100 gift certificate for participants who have completed the survey and provided contact info. It is preferred that you complete the survey on-line, but you can pick up a hard copy at the Town Office and return to same.

 

SCP consultants will also be holding a public meeting, tentatively set for 7:30-8:30pm, Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Town Office to give an overview of the Plan development process and how to stay engaged and informed throughout. There will be a brief presentation at this session with a follow-up informal discussion.
